Perodua MD eyes retirement, more time with family
Syed Hafiz's contract for the post of managing director expires at the end of the year and he has said that holding company UMW Holdings Bhd may appoint someone from within the group to replace him.
Syed Hafiz, who took up the post five years ago after 10 years with the UMW group, said he wanted a break and to spend more time with his family before focusing on charity work.
"I may not work elsewhere. I am tired and want to rest for a while. I may focus on charity work after spending some time with my family," he told reporters at the opening of Perodua's body-and-paint hub in Subang Jaya, Selangor, yesterday.
Syed Hafiz believes that it is a good time to leave as Perodua is in a strong position.
"In the first nine months of this year, we have been number one except for one month," he remarked.
Syed Hafiz may still be around late next month when Perodua unveils its multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).
He is confident that the MPV will be another best-seller for the company, like its Myvi and Viva compact cars.
Syed Hafiz is proud of the progress made by Perodua over the years, especially in product development by locals.
He said the MPV will boast of 88 per cent local content.
